Order of Malta Concludes Cooperation Agreement with Czech Republic

Foreign Minister visits the Order's Hospital in Bethlehem to launch projects

The Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic came to Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem to mark the implememtation of a Cooperation Agreement between the Czech Republic and the Sovereign Order of Malta covering their collaborative work in Palestine.

The first phase of implementation of the Agreement covers two projects - the creation of  Cardiology Unit at Holy Family Hospital, and the provision of a portable ultrasound machine to be based the the Marda Village Clinic of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Salfit Governorate. The Cardiology Unit was also assisted by a grant from the Global Fund for Forgotten People, an instrument of the Order of Malta.

In welcoming the Foreign Minister to Holy Family Hospital, Ambassador Simpson said "the Czech Republic and the Sovereign Order of Malta have a strong history, and the implementation of this Cooperation Agreement to work in collaboration on projects of mutual interest in Palestine reflects the hard work of our colleagues in Prague, in Rome and in Ramallah for the benefit of the mothers and babies of Palestine".

 

The Foreign Minister and accompanying dignitaries were given a tour of Holy Family Hospital by its CEO, Mr Dominique Jacqmin, and senior medical staff of the Hospital. They had the opportunity to visit the only neonatal intensive care unit on the West Bank, and to see the site in which the Cardiology Unit will be based once the equipment is delivered and installed.
