Cooperation agreement signed between Palestine and the Sovereign Order of Malta

Foreign Minister Dr. Riyad al-Maliki met on Sunday 29th June, 2014 at the Ministry's headquarters with the Representative of the Sovereign Order of Malta Justin Simpson. Dr. al-Maliki briefed Ambassador Simpson on the latest political developments in the occupied territories, and expressed his support for the increasing cooperation in the fields of health and economic development between the two governments.

Dr. Maliki highlighted the importance of the health services provided by the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Palestinian people , and in addition to the Order's work in Bethlehem, noted with pleasure the health and humanitarian aid interventions by the Order to aid refugees from Syria, including many Palestinians, fleeing to Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan.

For his part, Ambassador Simpson thanked the Foreign Minister and stressed his government's desire to consolidate and strengthen the bilateral relationship. 

The meeting concluded with the signing of the intergovernmental cooperation agreement, covering in particular the fields of health and economic development activity.

On behalf of the Government of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Ambassador Simpson then presented the Foreign Minister with a medallion struck to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the recognition of the Sovereign Order of Malta in the year 1113.
